George T. said that parallel viewing is crossing your eyes at 10 
or so feet.  Since my eyes are about 2.4 inches apart, parallel 
viewing usually causes my eyes to diverge, not to cross.  I was 
showing my neighbor whose eyes are much farther apart than my beady 
eyes) some holmes cards,  and as she was handing them to her husband 
to look at them in the Holmes Stereoscope, she glanced at the card 
and said, "hey, you don't need the viewer, you can just relax and 
they'll fuse for you, just like those posters".

I was very envious!          
I've been working on it, but I can't do it very often, yet.

Perhaps in magazines and publications, the stereo pairs should be
no more than 2.3 inches apart so more people can (parallel) freeview 
easily.
