Re: Survey of Stereo Clubs
Name: Utah Stereo Society
Location: Wasatch Front (Nephi to Logan, Utah, centered on Salt
Lake City)
Reliable contact: Ken Luker, vice president, Kluker@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Regular meetings: Once a month, at 6:30pm on the third Thursday of
each month.
Meetings start with dessert, usually. (Life is uncertain. Eat
dessert first. Since many of our core members were middle aged
in the fifties when this group began, the actuarial realities
dictate an opportunistic philosophy.)
After the refreshments, we have a short announcement and
business session, suggestions for future programs, reports on
ailing or missing members, etc. Then we usually talk for a
while on some topic of interest such as equipment, shooting
experiences, mounting techniques, the unpredictability of the
weather what with all these comets and what not these days, etc.
Finally we get to the slides: either a featured presenter or a
potpourri of contributed slides, "Come on Ethel, I know you stuck a
stack of slides in your coat pocket. Bring 'em out so we can see
'em." "Welllll....., they're not very good, but here they are." We
break up about nine p.m. so folks can drive home before it gets too
late.
The format described above is evolving into a more focused,
structured arrangement as the membership changes. We're starting to
get some of us younger set (fifties and younger :) ) now, and things
are slowly changing.
Membership fees: One year- $10 for one person, $15 for a couple.
Number of members: About 30 on the mailing list and about half
participate at some time during the year. Biggest turnout I've seen
was at the Christmas Party (no slides shown, just eating and
recitations and reminscences).
We have no newsletter at present, although in previous years there
was an announcement sent out before each meeting.
We meet in rotation at the homes of members, or at their place of
business if there is a projection room there.
Actually, my description, while mostly accurate, is a bit misleading.
We have a few excellent photographers, and a heck of a lot of
experience represented in the group. Naoma Roe of the Alpha
Circuit is now president, and her husband Alan is usually there
with his great shots, too.
