Your description makes me think of John Burroughs. His retreat Slabsides is
in the Hudson highlands and it's conceiveable that a portrait of him would
have been included in a set on American scenery, particularly a subset on
the Hudson River. He was an essayist and naturalist mentor of TRoosevelt and
figured prominently in the creation of the National Parks.

I'd love to see a stereo portrait of Burroughs.  There's a JB Shrine just
above my office, includes the old man's favorite teapot, etc!
