Attending the Banquet at the NSA Convention?

I heartily recommend it. I have only been attending the
conventions since 1985 and all the banquets have been
just great. I am not always interested in the same subjects
that the guest speakers are but they are entertaining.
In Atlanta we had a guy talking about Random Dot
Stereograms, which are not my cup of tea. But the
social aspect of this gathering (table hopping was
still going on at almost midnight) more than made up
for it. I recommend everyone attend all the functions,
because there is bound to be something entertaining
at all of them.

For many years I did not attend the NSA auction because
I am not a well heeled collector, I consider myself a
producer. As a lark I entered 10 of my celebrity
stereographs in the NSA auction in Atlanta and was
pleasantly surprised when a stereograph of President
Clinton, which I usuallyselll for $20, brought $75 at the
auction.

This sort of inspired Stan White, who produces museum
quality stereographs, to put one of his masterpieces
in the auction at Rochester. It sold for $90 which is the
current record price for a contemporary stereograph. I
encourage some of you slide makers to put some of your
works in the auction. It is a good fund raiser for NSA, plus
it is fund to hear people bidding on your efforts.

The Stereoscopic Society Friday night supper is the
highlight of the conventions as far as I am concerned.
This event has been going on since 1986 and it
gets better and bigger every year

NIMSLO PRINTS FOR STEREO CARDS?

Many stereo card makers in the SSA have chosen
the NIMSLO as their weapon of choice. In fact II
think I am the only one who had the negatives
processed as lenticulars. And I did it to send a
lenticular and a stereo card print in the folios for
comparison.

Craig Daniels has devised several little items to help
those who favor the Nimslo (his wife Nancy is a big
Nimslo fan). He sells close-up lens, "scenic"lens,
which move the point of focus from 16 feet to about 41 feet,
and a LEVEL (this could be a 4th thread).. He operates
STEREOTYPE in Florence OR. His Email address is
StereoType@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Grand Photo of Minneapolis will print monolithic
prints, ready for viewing, from Nimslo, Nishika
or Rittai cameras.

I tried to convince both Nimslo and Nishika to print
Black & White Lenticulars, but never did get anywhere.

3D OR NOT 3D TV THAT IS NOT A GOOD QUESTION!!

About all you could say about the "attempt" was that it was
better than nothing. Arguably the best stereo during the week
were the sequences on "Funniest Home Videos" where
there was movement thatcould be viewed using the Pulfrich
system. I have a pair of flip up sunglasses that I have cut
the frame so I can flip either side up or down and they work
pretty good.

Last evening a crew from channel 11, the NBC affiliate in
Atlanta, was at the monthly meeting of the Atlanta
Stereographic Assn to film some stereo activities to
use to promote their 3rd Rock from the sun. They
shot and shot and shot, interviewed everyone except my dog
and got enough footage to make a feature film. I gave them
a five minute dissertation on the Pulfrich system, using the
glasses they brought with them. I stressed that the pulfrich
glasses could be used for watching action TV scenes,
providing the action is from the proper direction.

I hope that NBC does better than that other network. We will
see.
