Greg [nice name! ;-)], I infer from the above that you find Velvia to be
somewhat grainier than KM 25... Is this correct?
I shoot 35mm exclusively. My own opinion is that both the current crop
of Ektachrome 100 (both the Elite II EB and E100S emulsions), and Velvia
in particular, show much less noticeable grain than Kodachrome 25. In
fact I find the grain virtually undetectable in Velvia, even in a
Themelized, halogenized Red-button.
I know it was once true that Kodachrome had the finest grain structure
of any chrome film, but I have to wonder if that is still true today.
I still shoot KM and KR, but I do so for the "look" rather than for
lack of apparent grain. Note that I'm not making any claims about
"sharpness" or "resolving power" or any of that, which I'm not
equipped to measure. I'm just talking about what I perceive through a
good slide viewer (or a loupe, for that matter).
Am I alone in this opinion?
