We are off topic.

There is general agreement that HB was the best comet of the century. 
But Hyakutake was easily naked eye visible in good skies if you have
experience in spotting comets.
Most look for the spectacular tails.  In practise they are very hard to
see for all but the brightest of comets.  Comets look like fuzzy balls
with a hard core.  There are also a number of other fuzzy objects in the
sky.

The best way to learn is have an amateur astronomer show you a fairly
bright comet with the appropriate instrument.
