I think this sums it up nicely. Some on the list, found it puzzling that
there were "negative" reactions. As you mention, I think the problem
arises that those with similiar reactions, just discovered the joy of
pulfrich 3D. So for those that fall in that group, it's an amazing and
effective effect when seen for a first time. I don't think anyone on the
list said that those few scant moments that had the pulfrich 3d weren't
good. The complaint was that there was precious little and very poorly
presented.(see next paragraph why)

Sure the music, dancing, background sets, computer animation, etc. was
professionally done and very nice to watch in ANY dimension. The problem
arose in how those 3D episodes were presented. The basic premise of
staggering the pulfrich 3d in 4 different segments was an excellent
idea and fit in well with the dream sequences. This is because if the
whole 16 minutes or so, was done in one shot it would have been very
tiring for most people. So splitting it up was smart. The problem arises
when those segments had only 10 second bursts or so of 3D. This I think
was uncalled for and should have been much longer in each dream sequence.
There were 4 dream sequences of roughly 4 minutes each. In each segment
there was about 1 minute of actual 3D! The second segment had 2 minutes.
So for 16 minutes total, there was only 5 minutes of pulfrich 3D, spread
around in a few second intervals at a time. Just when the brain sees
the 3d effect they yank it right out again. This was very disconcerting.
Since each dream sequence ran 4 minutes, they should have done at least
75% of it in 3D.

As for free tv not getting much better than this, I would have to
disagree. This certainly wasn't free for the producers of the show. They
planned it as a 3d then special effects show and spend good money trying
to achieve this, which they failed. Free tv does get much better than
this, cause in some programs there is more unintended pulfrich 3d of
equal or better quality. Look for it and you'll find the jewels.

If anyone still thinks I don't like pulfrich 3D after reading this post,
they haven't read it carefully. And for the record, off list I have
had discussions with other P3D members discussing and defending why I
think Pulfrich 3D is superior to most other types of broadcast 3D.
