BobH, explaining an obstacle to previewing uncut film, mentions:
>Many people don't realize that the image is upside down in the camera...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the film "upside down and backwards?"
(I think this is implied by BobH's later mentioning that "we flip it
right side up, thus reversing left and right images," but not stated
explicitly.) If the film were *only* upside down, we could orient it
the way it moved through the camera, and view (or freeview) the upside
down images in normal stereo. But we can't.
Rather than "flipping" the film to only cause the top and bottom to swap
places, we actually rotate the film 180 degrees, as though around the
face of a clock, which causes top to "swap places" with bottom, *and*
right to "swap places" with left.
Sounds obvious to the experienced, but to a spatial-relationship-
challenged newbie like myself, it was very confusing to envision
how it works. Hope this helps clarify it for a few others.
