I am not a rangefinder expert but it seems that it is difficult to find a
long range rangefinder in a compact package.  How about using your SLR with
a long lens?

I always guess the shift in hyperstereos.  There is no "correct answer" to
the question of separation distances so most pictures turn out OK.
