As to your last question, I have insufficient data.  Stephen 
Kearney (SLK@xxxxxxxxxx) of this list has made a beautiful 
lighted Wheatstone with lenses to aid in focusing close for 
4x5 transparencies.  I would put it at two gasps on the wow
scale.  8-)
