Repairing Selectron Carriage

The Selectron carriage for my TDC projector has a shutter problem: the
shutter does not open when a slide is inserted fully. I tried soaking the
thing in one of the Photo-3d-approved solvents (no way--I won't say WHICH
one!) thinking it may be gummed up, but nope, no gunk. So I took out as
many screws as possible, looked way inside and it seems to be a
mechanical issue. The little "foot" that is supposed to push the shutter
open at the appropriate moment is not staying aligned to the plane of the
shutter--flopping about, so to speak-- and just gets shoved in the wrong
spot, often getting trapped inside the edge of the shutter. When I reset
its correct position with a small screwdriver, it works fine as long as I
hold it flat. That won't do, of course.

So, can this thing be fixed? The housing is riveted shut which does not
help inquisitive types like me. Any suggestions or offers would be
appreciated.

Thanks, gang.
