[BTW, this is my first post to P3D -- gee, I'm nervous...]
I'm very new to stereo photography (less than one month). But, after
viewing a handful of images, the one thing that separates 3D images from
2D ones is the reality of spatial location. Watching a standard movie
provides a 2D representation of the world. Relative size determines
spatial orientation -- objects nearer the lens are simply bigger. (This
effect is exploited to trick the 2D camera into adjusting scale by size --
hence, the '60 Foot Woman' is only larger due to proximity and cleverly
concealing the break between the two separate sets.)
The idea that really gets me excited is a capable director providing a
spatially correct view of the world. Take the camera through one of the
great halls in a European castle -- provide perspective on the true scale
of items. I'm coming up short on better ideas this afternoon, but I hope
the idea is there. I want to see *into* the screen, not just images on
the screen.
