  Another use for DOF buttons is to preview
lens flare.  If you are shooting with the
sun in the scene or just outside it, you
may (intentionally) get those hexagonal
or other shaped bright spots in your image.

  The actual flare will vary with aperture
so being able to stop down to shooting aperture
is useful to see what the flare will look
like.
