It shouldn't be.

It sure sounds like a lubrication problem. Is there any obvious way to
disassemble the motor?

Does the shaft extend out both ends, or just one end? If both ends, sometimes
you can inject oil along the shaft with a fine syringe (like the kind used
for epoxy).

Is there any chance of getting information (or a new motor :-) from "Fasco"?

Does anybody have a totally dead motor of that kind that can be autopsied to
figure out where to put the oil? (I've occasionally gone to extremes such as
drilling holes for future lubrication, once I knew just where to put them.)

I hate to advocate steps that might put somebody's priceless projector at
risk, but if it is a lubrication problem then it may continue to get worse,
eventually resulting in permanent damage.
