Re: Slow projector fans - Lubrication?

Thanks to John R's expert advice, I was able to take apart the TDC fan
motor (as if I had nothing better to do at 2:00 am). It is a simple
motor... I put a few drops of oil in key locations and will wait until
tomorrow to check the results.
If everything works out well, I might be adding a new repair service: TDC
projectors. Here is a list of things that can be done:
- Inspect, lubicate motor (if "slow")
- Clean projection lenses
- Take apart and clean condenser lenses
- Report on condition of heat filters (no replacement found for those yet)
- Lubricate all adjustments
- Check condition of polarizing filters & replace as needed.
- Inspect and clean carrier
- Check in projection and report on condition
Here is something special I have done to my 116:
- Replace one of the 2-way switches with a 3-way switch to allow the
fan to operate without any of the lamps on.
Better, I might write a book on the TDC projectors which will include more
tips, like the recent one about the replacement cord, measurements of
temperatures, light intensity, etc., plus general advice on stereo
projection, including screens, etc.
