lenticular postcards, and a lifelong (unacknowledged) hobby

While cleaning out my attic to get ready for a yard sale, I came across some
lenticular 3D postcards from about 30 years ago. I had given up looking for
these, so I was quite pleasantly surprised to find them. I was also
surprised to see how good they looked. One is a model shot of a lunar module
(prototype) landing on a craggy lunar surface. The other is a recreation of
Millet's "Angelus" painting, showing a man and woman taking a break from
toiling in the fields to bow their heads in reverence, set against a glowing
sunset. Nice looking stuff.
It reminded me that I've always been interested in 3D, though I never
admitted it until I became aware of this group, and learned that there are
active hobbyists in this field. As I kid, I always had a huge collection of
View-Master reels. In fact, I was the only teen ager I knew who still had
his View-Master. I also used to buy holograms from Edmund Scientific, and to
get 3D comic books, etc. whenever I could find them. Since I was the only
one I knew who had this interest in 3D, I just thought of it as some
personality defect, and not a legitimate hobby.
Years later, when I found out that it was possible to take stereo pictures,
and that there were evan cameras made for doing this, I was totally
enthralled. I immediately bought a splitter, and then a Realist. Now that
I've finally gotten a projector, I'm hoping to open some other eyes to the
wonders of 3D.
