<<perhaps there are some new suggestions. What I'm looking for are good
(plot, acting, setting, etc.) movies that also happen to be in 3-D, or
movies with exceptionally good stereo regardless of the other factors. If
someone doesn't give them suggestions the Dryden may just grab whatever
they can with "3-D" in the description, regardless of quality. I foresee a
week of movies full of "Home Improvement"-type schtick. :--(
Any suggestions? The Dryden has the capability for either anaglyph or
polarized, in side-by-side or over-under format.>>
If you are limited to single strip or anaglyph, you will have to kiss almost
all of the 50s 3-D films (features, shorts and cartoons) goodbye, as only
House of Wax and Dial M were made into single strip prints. Kiss Me Kate is
only available for dual projection, and in fact actually comes on *three*
sets of reels (giant 5000 foot reels, too) the third reel set has just the
sound -- 4-channel magnetic -- for theaters equipped with a separate magnetic
reader sound head that can be synched to the two projectors. Yes, that means
synching three film chain heads simultaneously; and you thought just dual
projection was complicated.
In anaglyph you are just going to find It Came From Outer Space and Creature
from the Black Lagoon; unless you count the relatively recent Nightmare on
Elm Street 3-D which has an anaglyph reel.
The 1980s brought a spate of over-and-under single strip films and I really
suggest you get in touch with Chris Condon over at StereoVision who can
probably tell you what is available and from whom.
