Kodak Stereo - into the shutter mechanism?

Kodak Stereo fixers:

I have a kodak stereo camera which seems to have two specs of
something between the two rear elements of the (left) lens.

Following previous advice on this list (archived on the Rocky 
Mountain Memories Website), removal of the shutter mechanism 
is straightforward - but I haven't seen any advice about what 
happens next.... 

Rather than bathe and puff graphite, I _think_ that I want to 
seperate the rear lens elements, and clean between them.

Any tips and pointers?
