1-2 degrees rotation is a rather small error, leading to 0.5 mm of vertical
offest in the worse case (furthest from center, etc.) which is incapable 
of generating the results you are describing.  I would say that 1 deg. 
rotation (resulting to 0.2 mm offset at the edge of the Realist frame)
can be unnoticed by unexperienced individuals.

Many of the scientific images I am dealing with (SEM stereopairs, fusing of
tensile deformation samples, etc.) contain more vertical misalignment than
that, yet I have not felt the symptoms that you describe.

This is not to suggest that a person should not be careful to eliminate
such errors.  Only that the effects of having to deal with these errors
are greatly exaggerated.
