Maybe because it made the card physically "3D"? Kind-of along
the lines of wide curved movie screens were claimed to be "3D"?

Curved ones seem to feel more "substantial" when held because of
the increased quasi-thickness.

Does Paul Wing's book have any reference to this sort of thing? I need
to buy a copy while (if) they're still available. Hopefully someone will
be selling them at the convention? :-)

P.S. - I suppose there *could* have been a non-marketting reason. It seems
that it might make the card stiffer as well. The cards are curved in
a way to make it stiffer in the long direction -- and the cards are
usually held by "clips" on the long-ends of the card.
