You can actually do a little Gedankenexperiment:  Just consider
a pinhole camera.  Obviously tilting the lensboard does nothing 
but that doesn't prove much.  Now tilt the film plane and you 
will see the same keystone distortion that you see in a lensed 
camera and for the same reason.
