trimming of stereo prints

How I trim stereo prints:

Most of my stereophotography is shot with "rock 'n roll" or sidestep and a
winder on my Nikon FM2. As a result, I have to set the stereo window when I
crop the images. Frequently I will have my color processor (Simon's Camera
in Hollywood) make the smaller size prints (3 1/2 x 5) on matte paper to
fit more of the image in the final result. Then I place both prints on top
of each other on a light board and align them to register on the near point
in the foreground for the stereo window (and correct any vertical errors
that might have occured during the photography). The prints are then taped
down in register to each other on top of the light board. I place a clear
mylar template the size of the final pairs (usually 3" x 3") right over the
desired area of the image(s) and I mark the trim lines with an exacto blade
and trim down both left and right images at once. The pairs are then
mounted onto a pre-cut backing board with hot wax and burnished with a
clear acrylic roller to stick fast. Any cleaning necessary is done with
soft cotton and Bestine before placing in a protective sleeve. The best
(and sometimes most outrageous) sterecard views are then sent off in the
Stereoscopic Society Folios to make their rounds.
