Re: Greg Kane wants to make "stereo's classic format" from some
stereo slides and asks about using a slide duplicator attachment from
Adorama with print film. Of course all the normal considerations
of making prints from slides directly versus via an internegative
will apply. Greg, have you firmly resolved that you need to use
the internegative approach (e.g., because you intend to make a lot
of prints from each stereo slide)?
The direct process called "Ilfochrome Classic" claims "three distinct
advantages over conventional print-from-slide technology." 1) No
loss of sharpness. 2) Richer, more accurate colors. 3) Long lasting.
If printed on the (expensive) "Deluxe" printing material, "will
out-last most conventional photographic print processes by at least 5
times." "When properly laminated and registered with Ilford, this
print carries a 200 year guarantee against fading."
Incidentally, in my pre-stereo days I used a direct slide printing
service from a place called LaserColor. The prices were reasonable
and the resulting print was virtually indistinguishable from the
original slide. I have never seen any other slide printing process
that could match that quality, and, in my experience, only the
Ilfochrome process ever came close. Unfortunately, LaserColor
determined their wonderful direct process was not profitable and
stopped offering it (they switched to internegatives). If anyone
knows anything about the LaserColor direct printing technology being
resurrected, I'd love to hear about it.
