More NSA highlights

Two more highlights of NSA '97:

1. John Berkovitz' fascinating lecture on 3D and perspective, useful
to both layman and advanced theorist, and illustrated with a good set of
slides projected with a TDC 116.

2. Hugo de Vries' extraordinary viewers. The full-frame (8-perf) viewer
with built-in light was a magnificent piece of work, IMO worth every penny
of the $1000 price. The optics and construction clearly surpass even the
best commercially-produced viewers of the 1950s. (I personally use a
Wollensak 11 - a very nice viewer, but it doesn't compare to the de Vries
for critical viewing and quality of construction. And I understand the
Wollensak is selling for well over $200.) The prototype of the new
View-Master 8X (?) was also impressive, in a class by itself.
