NSA Auction

George Themelis wrote concerning my posting about
lack of contemporary slide images in the NSA Auction.

He missed the point somewhat!! As for my 22 lots
blocking other lots out - tain't true George. I am not aware
of any entries in the NSA auction ever being refused. I would
think it a big step forward if the NSA Auctioneer Robert Duncan
had to pick from 400/500 lots to decided what will be used. If
I had not put in my entries there would have been 22 less on
Friday night (which George probably thinks is a good idea, but
a few collectors would probably disagree)

I think it is great that folks contribute money directly to NSA. I
and the other NSA officers do the same, plus a lot of time and
effort to make the organization work and appeal to more folks.
Part of the appeal, whether you agree or not, is the Friday
night auction and if that can be improved I think it is the way to
go. Since the Friday night auction is essentially the selling
of images, I would like to see all facets of NSA represented,
including Viewmaster and stereo slides. I guess I could put some
of my decidedly 2d class slides, most of them probably improperly
mounted, due to my lack of interest in this medium, in the auction
but this might give the impression that all the NSA slide makers
don't know what they are doing. But I believe it would be better
if some of the ones who REALLY LIKE slides would put a few of theirs in
and show what can be done. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

George also wrote that maybe I should have a Bill C Walton Auction and
sell my images and donate to NSA. Point missed again - I am interested
in
promoting NSA, it's conventions and membership and if my images are
accepted
in the future NSA auctions then they will be sold by NSA.

Two things against a "Bill C Walton Auction"
1. Administrative problems- which Bob Duncan and his team of NSA
      folks are trained to handle.
2. Lack of interest & crowd- My wife and I would be the only ones to
attend and
      she wouldn't stay very long.

I've received 4 messages from different folks this morning asking if it
was just
them or did I think George was a bit "hostile" in his posting regarding
the auctions.
I haven't met George so I really don't know whether he is"hostile" or
like me
and says what he thinks. Anyway both of us are promoting stereography
and
that is the most important thing. We are taking different roads and it
appears
these two roads are not likely to cross, but will probably arrive at the
same
destination.
