****** That's not specifically what JPS means. As an example, the JPS
images created and used by Canopus Corp. does not use or recognize such
headers, and yet it works fine in their viewing environment and even in
DepthCharge under the right circumstances. The headers are only needed if
your original does not conform to the default mode. The special headers
allow a broader use of the file type, which is a good thing.

****** I heartily agree. It's to their credit that they recognize and
accept that stereo imagery is a whole lot more than just a specific
technical application. By making any form of 3D more easily within reach of
everyone, it helps their position of encouraging folks to try the LCS
technology too. Any company that thinks they can ignore 90% of the existing
body of knowledge relating to stereoscopic 3D is way off the mark and they
don't deserve consumer support. Be aware that such companies do exist. Big
thanks to VRex for using the broader picture!!!

If stereoscopic 3D is to become known and used by more people, they have to
have easy access to 3D and the basic knowledge of what it is in all it's
many facets, and how to work with stereo images. DepthCharge greatly assists
that overall goal, without which the market for stereoscopic products will
have a hard time growing. If it's good for stereo 3D, then it can be helpful
for companies providing products to the stereo market.

The educational approach is the only one that makes sense considering that
3D is so poorly undersood generally and there are so many mis-understandings
commonly bandied about. Market penetration for stereo products will parallel
the introduction of 3D's best qualities and capabilities. It's not the same
as a sports car market in which virtually every member of the species from
child-hood up understands what a sports car is... For 3D to be well
received, you have to use an extensive show and tell approach. The fact that
people are wired for stereoscopic 3D biologically is the factor that takes
over AFTER an appropriate and interesting introduction is present. No matter
how you slice it, that process takes time. No company will have overnight
stereo success until after more of the population is exposed to the
pleasures and possibilities that those of us on this list take almost for
granted.

Between P3D and the web pages so many of us maintain, we have established an
admirable broad-band broadcast relating to stereo 3D that is ongoing 7 days
a week and 24 hours a day. Hopefully over time, we can encourage more
participation from PBS and TV media in general, with a more realistic
approach that is cognizant of the whole field, not just the gimmicks.
