Trip to Japan and Stereo Card Exhibition

I have been selected as one of a 20 person delegation
from Columbus GA to make a sister city trip to our
Japanese sister City Kiryu. This exchange has been going
on for 6 years, but it was always 14 students and 2 teachers
from Columbus. This year they decided to include 4 other
adults and I feel fortunate that I was selected for one of the
slots. We will leave on 26 Jul and return on 11 Aug.
We will live with families during our two weeks stay in Japan so
that should increase the interest a great deal. I will have a
stereo card exhibition in the Kiryu Performing Arts Center while
we are there. There was a communication problem on this item,
because, according to our contact in Kiryu they do not have poster
frames in Japan. So I had to box what I needed and a local
printing company paid the postage to ship them to Japan.
The Mayor of Kiryu was in Columbus last year during the Olympics
and I have completed a dozen stereo cards as a gift to him, showing
where he stayed and several places that he visited while he was here.
Of course, he will need a viewing device so I am including a couple of
Lorgnette viewers.
It is a tradition that members from both countries take gifts from their
area to give to the host families. We all contacted local firms and
organizations and asked for donations (20 items of each donation)
Muscogee 3-D (that is me) donated 20 copies of the 3-D picture
book Back to Basics with lorgnette viewers.
My host family supposedly has a computer so I am taking four
diskettes which have 14 of my military black & white stereographs
in anaglyphic form to give to them as one of their gifts.
I am taking sufficient film to meet my needs during the trip. I am
not taking near the number of rolls that George took to Greece,
but my stereo format of choice, black & white stereo cards, is
somewhat more "labor intensive" than stereo slides and I tend
to be a little selective when it comes to stereographic subjects.
I am trying to locate any stereographers who live in the Kiryu area,
but so far have not found any. I am supposed to attend a meeting
of the Kiryu Photography Club during our stay so perhaps some
will be there
Who knows I may be able to convert some of their stereo enthusiasts
to stereo cards!!
