TWIN RIGS

To all stereo "nuts" worldwide.

I have been involved with stereo photography since 1982 when I saw a
"Pat Whitehouse Show". I was then hooked on 3D and have since been
giving 3D shows to organisations all over the U.K. ever since.  I am not
great at theory and I admire folks who devote time to solving
theoretical problems. I started my 3D experiments in the backwoods of
South Wales (U.K.) with no one living near enough to give advice on
starting. I therefore learnt the hard way by making mistakes and having
to solve them myself. A recommended way of not making the same mistake
again.

Since 1985 I have been taking my stereo slides with twin rig Konica
SLR's FT1's and zoom lenses of 35mm-70mm with a toe in of, wait for it,
10ft with a 6" base and a near point of 8ft outward. This permits me to
use full frame 35mm for better quality projection.

Talking of projection, I am using 4 Kinderman 250 watt as a fade and
dissolve system, controlled by digital units by Imatronics of
Chelmsford, England, with accompanying music or naration. I have 5ft and
10ft silver screens which enable me to project correctly for a wide
range of venues.

I am having trouble getting spares for my FT1's with a warning from
Konica that it could mean the end of the line as to keeping them in
working order. Does anyone know of a source that can supply spares for
FT1's or FS1's?

I have talked with Allan Griffin in Australia about this and the
possible replacement camera for twin rigs and he told me that the only
ones at a reasonable price was the Ricoh KR 10-M and that this model was
going off the market soon.

I am at this very moment trying out the Pentax MZ50. It is the only one
in a reasonable price range that has the facilities for remote switching
(necessary for twin rig use).

Its specification is far more than I need. I require a simple 35mm
camera with interchangeable lenses, motor wind on, TTL simple metering
and a reliable synchronisation at shutter point.  That isn't much to ask
is it?

What is on offer is motor drive, auto focus, zoom, 5 programmes,
aperture and shutter  priority, auto rewind etc. etc. Good selling
points to the flat snapper but totally unnecessary for my stereo needs.

I paralleled two remote releases for the MZ50 and found that a feed back
occured  which fired the cameras intermittently and at different times.
Pentax have said that they can cure this by their boffins adding a
circuit to my paired remote switch setup - for 50 pounds.

I am waiting for the return of the switch to continue testing for the
best two, of three MZ50's(shutter synchronisation). Has anyone recently
looked into this new camera problem? Id like to know. I will keep you
posted on my results with the Pentax MZ50.
