Quoting from "The Darkbook Handbook" by Michael Langford
"Bas relief is a form of [photographic] sculpture, in which the figures
project slightly from their background. You can make photographs look like
side-lit, low-relief images by combing negative and positive films of the
same image, slightly out of register."
It is a planar technique and not frequently used by stereo photographers.
However, it has been done in stereo and is very interesting limited only by
your own creativity. Several years ago, there was an article done by Sylvia
Sikes, FPSA, in the PSA Journal about the technique and I have those
original slides (sorry don't have the issue handy).
I mentioned bas relief in a previous posting because if you have patience
and like to experiment, you may enjoy the technique, but I was searching for
someone to write about it for INSIDE 3D. And still am! I didn't wish to
reprint the PSA article. I was looking for something fresh.
I have plenty of samples, but would like someone's experience. If you
haven't done it, but have time and patience and would like to try and write
about it, please contact me off-list.
