I'm new to computers and P3D but I've been taking stereo photos
for three years. After looking at my parents Keystone WW1 stereo
cards,I decided to try making my own. I used a SLR with slide bar
and paired Rollei 35S's. After a while,I decided View-Master for-
mat would be fun, mainly for the close up lenses, projector, and the
collectable reels that are available. After 4 cameras, I gave up in
disgust. Every camera I tried had shutter problems (either bouncing
or sticking) and film flatness problems. I finally wised up and got
serious about using my fathers Realist that he bought in Dec. of 47.
(serial number A0784) The camera looks awful cosmetically and takes
fantastically sharp photos. Of course it has the Ilex
Paragon lenses. The only problem with it is that it doesn't like
36 exposure rolls. It will overlap the last several exposures. I
wonder if this is due to not having the guard over the film
advance sprocket. That was a modification on later models.
Anyway, I like it enough to have ordered a "new" Realist from
Dalia. I also have a TDC 116 projector and enjoy doing
close up stereo with the Adorama macro focusing rail.
I've heard the Steinheil wide angle lense only works well with
the 2.8 Realist. Why wouldn't it work just as well with the
Ilex Paragons?
