Stereo Moment In Film

Tuned in AMC Saturday morning for CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN -- 20th Century Fox's
fictionalized biography of time and efficiency expert Frank Gilbreth played
by the inimitable Clifton Webb.
Near the end of the film when Webb is in his study packing for his trip to
Europe a unique stereo device is seen on his desk-- presumably one of
Gilbreth's own inventions. It appears to be a Holmes Stereo Viewer except
where the stereo card would go was an assembly that appeared to allow the
viewing of twin strips of 35mm stereo film. The affair appeared to function
as a stereo film strip viewer -- that is viewing stereo twin-strip still
frames in sequence. The device also seemed to have electric illumination.
Ah, those clever Hollywood set decorators! I wonder if they borrowed the
device from the Gilbreth family.
