|I tried the first one; pages and pages of pretty pictures and turgid
|prose were missing in the IBM WEB version. However, it is marvelous.
|I spent a very pleasant afternoon a few months ago on it.

Back years ago when I was in grad school, the institution had a 
complete set of patent volumes (federal depository). I spent several
pretty interesting afternoons just browsing thru the first couple of 
volumes - sounds dull, but for someone interested in technology, it's
worthwhile to do at least once :-)
