|I realize I'm contributing to the problem by writing this, but...

|
|Can't we just let the moderators unsubscribe the poor saps, and get on
|with the 3D discussion? In this case it was pretty obvious that English
|was not the poster's native tongue. Recall also that the list has had
|an address change very recently. Let's all extend a little charity
|toward the computationally challenged, OK? The irony is that people were
|just recently defending this list as being so "genteel", and then we
|get this.

I don't mind the meta discussions since I feel like MAYBE they will make
people take notice that there is a certain level of expertise and netiquette
expected on this list. I view it somelike small children screaming at
the supermarket - you can give 'em what they want, but if you do, it'll
be just as bad (or worse) next time.

Or as one of my relatives used to say about whacking a mule on the side
of the head with a 2*4 to get his attention (back in the before PC days).

Hard as it is to believe, I *do* have varying levels of tolerance to this
issue. On my overland-trails mailing list I know that I'm dealing with
a lot of people who are just getting into computers and are probably
not particularly technology oriented. So I tend to be more forgiving there.

OTOH in my Motorola embedded systems mailing list which I used to run,
there was ZERO tolerance - everyone there was expected to know
the ins and outs of computer systems to a fairly sophisticated degree.

Photo-3d (and allied mailing lists) is somewhere in between. When the
next, major address change occurs in the next two weeks I expect massive
confusion in overland-trails, but not so much here (crossing my fingers!).

As a preview, the domain name will be "rocky.edu" but I don't know what
the machine name will be (yet). The mechanics of the list should remain
similar to the current one since I've successfully re-compiled the source
code on the new platform. Hopefully speed (for the archive searches, etc)
will be similar or a bit faster. I also hope to maybe work out some of
the kinks in the current system.
