Sounds like you shot print film. If so, modern
consumer print films like overexposure. A stop or
two is usually no problem. The extra density is
easily corrected in the printing process.
Underexposure on print film is bad. The resulting
prints will be washed out and grainy if you are
too far underexposed.
With that in mind I usually shoot Fujicolor 400
at 200 speed (one stop over) with good results.
Slide film needs to be pretty much right on.

If you are getting 4x6 prints, the Printmagic viewer
sold by Joel Alpers (Rocky Mountain Memories) works
very nice for under/over prints:

Don't know about cameras. You could sign up on the
sell-3d list and watch for ones there.
