I've had a bit of a similar problem when going into flea markets/antique
stores looking for views.
One time I went into a store and asked the clerk about stereo views, and
absolutely could NOT convey that I was after photos rather than electronic
equipment. They heard "stereo" and thought "audio".
So I've taken to carrying around a trash litho view and if I get a blank
stare when I ask, I then say "Do you have any of THESE?".
