Okay, now that I am fully awake, there was another interesting
article that I read the other day regarding microscopes and 3D;
since there was some talk about 3D and microscopes a few weeks
ago.

In this months Quality in Manufacturing magazine there is an
article about new microscope technology. What caught my eye
was a paragraph about 3D for compound scopes. Here is an excerpt
from the article, titled, "All the world's a stage".

  3D for compound scopes

Another new microscopy technology just made
available by Carl Zeiss is 3D imaging technology
used as part of a compound microscope.

"A stereoscope has the ability to see 3D. You
yourself see 3D, as your eyes interpret two images,
each from a different angle," explains Hohman.
"This technology does the same thing, but on a
  compound microscope."

  Three-dimensional imaging provides depth
perception to a compound microscope. Such depth
perception has been restricted to low magnification
environments on stereoscopes that typically offer
magnification from 10x to 50x. Compound
microscopes offer magnification from 100x to 1000x.
