Dear Sirs:

I just saw the IMAX 3-D movie down in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and it was
totally awesome!  We wore what appeared to be polarizing filter glasses,
and two images about two feet apart were projected on the screen
simultaneously.  The glasses presented one image in glorious 3-D!  Now for
my question, being new to this field:  How does all this work?  Is the
light coming from each camera polarized as it leaves the camera?  I assume
this would be correct, but does this work like a Polaroid Vectograph, where
the film itself is polarized, or is there a polarizing filter placed over
the projecting camera lens, so that only polarized light is let through?
How is light loss due to polarization compensated for?  Is the polarized
light effected at all by the projection screen (which to me looked liked an
ordinary movie screen)?
