No hurt feeling here, but as some of you expected, I can't just let this
message go by... ;-) Althought some of the responses have already
addressed it, the main reason to present images in anaglyph format
(IMHO) is that is is the most easily viewable format for 3D image
presentation. MANY people have access to the glasses, and there is no
special skill required to view the images. I find this to be the easiest
way to present 3D images on the web, and get MANY more responses about
the anaglyphs than the setereo pairs, or JPS images I also publish.

Another good reason for anaglyphs, is that they are relatively easy to
publish. There have been many good anaglyphic books produced, and most
were/are sold for very resonable prices. The anaglyph glasses make it
easy for anyone, of any age to view and enjoy the images. If they were
prepared correctly, then they can be VERY enjoyable.

I think you have hit on a major problem right here... MOST anaglyphs are
red/blue, not red/green. Using red/green anaglyphs to view red/blue
images would degrade the image. Try viewing good red/blue anaglyphs with
red/blue glasses. They will be sharper, and might not hurt your eyes as
much... =) Also, if you are viewing the images on your computer screen,
make sure it is set to show at least 256 colors, and if possible 64,000
colors as that will affect the image as well.

>are there actually any _good_ anaglyphs?

Well, I think so! =) =) Try viewing the following images with red/blue
glasses:

http://www.dddesign.com/3dbydan/3dimages/giraffea.htm	color anaglyph
http://www.dddesign.com/3dbydan/3dimages/carhng2a.htm	b/w anaglyph

They are just samples of the work I have done in the anaglyph format,
but I think they show that with care, very good anaglyphs can be
produced.

If you like waht you saw, there are more to be seen at:

And, if you don;t have red/blue anaglyph glasses, go to:

for information about getting 4 free ($1 us S/H) pair from me.

PS - Some of you have mentioned that not "ALL" of the books for sale on
my site are discounted... True, and my error... Some are regular priced,
and some (that are harder to get) will actually be more than their
original asking price. You just have to have a look for yourself! =)
