->I took my family to the National Museum
->of Photography in Bradford (England)
->yesterday. I visited once before several
->years ago , but wasn't looking specifically
->at their stereo material. This time one of my
->daughters (Jennie,17) is working on
->a school project where she is looking at the
->development of stereo systems from a design
->point of view. So we were looking
->particularly at their coverage of this area.
<Much detail snipped>
->If we had known nothing about stereo
->before we went we would have come
->away believing it to be a failed and
->useless technology. The museum is
->closing down in a few days, to be
->completely rebuilt. I hope that in the
->meantime the Stereoscopic Society
->can help them put on a display that
->gives the public some chance to
->experience the impact of high quality
->stereo photography.

Well, the Stereoscopic Society has been in contact with the museum for
some years - it is a regular item on our Committee Meeting agendas.
Prime mover is our Chairman, Bernard Makinson, who has spent over 1000
GBP on designs and work for them - all out of his own pocket! This, of
course, was in the years when they constantly pleaded abject poverty.
Now, with the advent of lottery/heritage money they are undertaking the
total rebuild that John refers to. Sadly, we have no idea if they will
be implementing the display designs that Bernard has produced.
With your permission, John, I'll forward your message to Bernard to pass
on to the powers that be in the museum.
We, on the Stereoscopic Society Committee, all hope that the stereo
display will be vastly improved, but you know the old saying: "You can
lead a horse to water..."
Best Wishes
