Spicer mounts

With over 600 slide pairs waiting to be mounted since early May I
wore out my patience waiting for the Albion mounts to be available
again. So I broke down a bought a thousand Spicer cardboard mounts. I
had been trying to build a mounting jig like the one on Mr. Spicer's
web page but wasn't doing very well. Once again I wore out my
patience and I decided to just use a trimmed RBT mount. I am amazed
at how easy and accurate this method is. I do it slightly different
than the web page: instead of holding the Spicer mount against a
straight edged and then pushing the RBT mount with the aligned chips
up against the edge I simply fold the Spicer mount at a 90 degree
angle and push the RBT mount up against it. Doing it this way also
allows the chips to be mounted so that the tapped shut edge of the
mount is at top when projected. This eliminates the chance that the
tape will be caught in the bottom channel of my TDC.

I have checked all of the slides I have mounted so far in both a
Themelized Red Button and projected with a TDC 116 with 5" lenses.
There is not a single height, vertical, or rotational error in any of
them. Of course some of this is due to the fact that the 2.8 Realist
I am using has very well matched lenses (German).

I must admit though, that I cannot yet compete with Dr. T in speed
mounting. From the time I take an uncut roll of 36 exposure film (28
pairs) until I tape the last one shut it is about an hour and a half.
This includes looking at the slides in a hand held viewer twice -
once when the chips are first taped down to double check alignment
and again when the mount is taped shut to oooh and aaah. And I
usually really look at the slides because this is the first time I
have seen them. Also, unlike Dr. T it is very rare that I have a
slide that I don't think is worth mounting. I would like to think it
is my superior stereophotographic skills but I am sure it is just
that I am much less critical *{;-)

Thank you very much Harold Baize for coming up with the RBT mounting
jig idea and thank you Steve Spicer for the detailed instructions on
how to use it and the wonderful mounts you make.

For those interested in the Spicer Mounts, you can get them from Joel

For those interested in Steve Spicer's main stereo page his URL is

And of course feel free to contact me if there is anything I can
answer or clarify for you.

Thanks for the time,
