New experience

I had a new experience the other day. Up till then there was
absolutely no comparison for me between a good Themelized Red Button
viewer and a projected image. The viewer always blew away projected
slides with the brightness, clarity, color, and true stereo
separation. Then I looked at one of my new slides and actually liked
it much better projected than in the viewer. The viewer still had
better color, clarity, etc. but this particular slide's viewing
effect took precedence.

What happened was that I had tried a new (to me) technique. The slide
was taken at the Point Defiance Aquarium in Seattle while at NSA. It
is taken through a glass tank with the camera (Realist 2.8) right up
against the glass (well as close as the lens cover would allow) and
the flash (Vivitar 283 - full manual) off to the right also against
the glass. The subject is a very large spotted eel (four to six
feet?) about 3/4 of the way out of his hole facing the camera with
his mouth open and another fish swimming away from him and into the
camera. I mounted so that the fish is out of the window. The effect
is really great (as if the fish swam out of the tank to escape the
eel). I will prize this as one of my best 3D shots - but only if
projected.

I also tried lots of other "canned" shots at the zoos and aquariums
while in Seattle at NSA. Most of them worked very well. If you don't
have the time, patience, expertise, or money to photograph wildlife
in their natural environment I would suggest that you try zoo's,
parks, and aquariums. I am sure I could pass off several of my
pictures as "natural" if I wasn't such an honest person *{;-) There
is also a very good possibility that you could talk zoo officials
into letting you take macro stereos of insects and other small
animals.

Thanks for the time,
