I work in this field... I've installed a stereoscopic video system on
an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) used at an offshore gas
production platform. The system consists of an underwater stereoscopic
video camera and a 100Hz stereoscopic display which uses passively
polarised glasses to view the display. Stereoscopic video provides
many advantages in that application.
Mount Isa Mines, purchased a similar system last year for use on a
remotely controlled front end loader which operates in a copper smelter.
