Speaking of periferal vision- I personally doubt that I see 3D when my
eyes are diverted to the side. And talk about FALSE clues, how 'bout
wide angle convex side view mirrors!
Another issue is gauging the distance to an oncoming vehicle at night.
At night and directly ahead, you have few relative motion clues. Many
times, I have grossly misjudged the distance to a car because I assumed
it was normal '80-97 model when actually it was a vintage 60'or 70's
land cruiser. In these cases, any sterepsis seems to be washed out by
memory and conditioning.
