****** I did think of this method, but a hand in front of my nose doesn't
cut off binocular vision. I tried two hands and that didn' t do it either.
finally with one hand and the thick part of my forearm did the trick. Yes it
is somewhat boring and not really dizzy-making. I wonder how good a
simulation that is though since my eyes are still used to fusing a common
scene and are therefore easy to aim in the same direction even when blocking
access to stereo. A true monosopic person may not have such common directed
eyesight.

I heartily disagree with this. I can perceive stereo vision out to hundreds
of feet and even much farther. The detail may be reduced by the diminishment
of distance, but stereo vision is still present and very useful. I found
myself using it a lot during passing on narrow roads. Sometimes that's at a
slow speed (45 mph), other times it's much faster.
