Re: Help with heat seal mounts

> Could you please tell me more about your mounting optics?

I scotch-taped my Reel-3d mounting gauge to a flexible opaque
plastic ruler. I lay the gauge on a light table and use the thin
edge of the ruler as a straight edge, against which I lay the flap
side of a heat seal mount. I have a pair of plano-convex lenses,
about 2.5 " focal length, mounted in an aluminum lens frame and
attached to a cantilever arm from a clipboard, so that with the
clipboard extending away from me beyond the light box (and
appropriately weighted to prevent its tipping), the lenses are held
over the light box and the mounting gauge.

The horizontal lines on the mounting gauge are ideal for preventing
rotational error; the vertical lines let me mount so that the
infinity or most distant points are at, or slightly inside of, the
"far" line on the gauge. I let the window take care of itself, unless
there is a strong window violation, in which case I make individual
judgements about how to do the mounting. This whole apparatus makes
the mounting pleasant. The picture slides into the correct position
with the same satisfaction as hearing a guitar string sliding into
perfect tune: You KNOW when it's there!
