In photo-3d 2266 Mark Dottle asks about mounting for projection.
In my previous post response to Mark Josephson I extol the virtues of
the Spicer cardboard mount. This goes for projection as well. If
using a TDC projector the Spicers are just fine. If a Brackett
Disolver is used and the operator does not readjust the tension, it
is possible to bend the mount and lose focus. I have found a great
cure for this. The Spicer mounts fit perfectly in an EMDE aluminum
binder with one piece of glass (on the projection side). There are
several advantages to this set up. First you can just mount all your
slides the same without having to chose which ones are good enough
for different mounts. If you decide you want to enter in a
competition or show, you just select the ones you want and slip them
in the EMDE Binder. It is also possible to remove them from the
Binder and reuse it, although I do not know how many times you could
bend the side tab before it broke off. This might actually not be a
problem because the mount fits in so tight it won't fall out with the
side tab broken off. Another advantage is that you can preview your
slides in a projector and see exactly how they will look before you
put them in the Binder. If you change mounts you run the risk of
mismounting or even worse damaging the slide in the removal /
replacement process. There is nothing more frustrating than a perfect
slide ruined by a pinhole or scratch shining blue light through.
Cropping and adjusting the window is a breeze with the Spicer mounts
due to the wide variety of sizes available. I have yet to run into a
situation that the Spicers couldn't handle.
And NO I do not have any connection with Steve Spicer and I do not
receive any kick backs *{;-) I just love his mounts.
I should also mention the extra side benefit from the mounts: all
those little square cardboard pieces. Does anyone have any use for
approximately 2400 23 x 21 mm squares. Dr. T, what are you doing with
all yours? Could we send them back to Steve for recycling?
Thanks for the time,
