The first time I tried this I was using a sample Spicer Mount that I
got from Joel Alpers at Rocky Mountain Memories quite awhile ago and
an EMDE Binder that I got in an original box as part of my projector
deal. I assume these were original old stock. I went back and tried
some of the Spicers that I have just mounted and they all seem to fit
the same. I should also mention that the glass was new stock from
Reel 3D. I am waiting for my new EMDE Binders to arrive (Dennis -
where are they?), but as Dennis Sherwood said in his post there
should be no difference in the two.
I can see no real difference in the size of any of my Spicer mounts
(horizontally or vertically - I don't know about thickness). I would
assume that there can't be much if any difference if they are all
being cut by the same die. Just as Dennis says for the aluminum
mounts and binders.
If by "smidgen" you mean an amount equal to the thickness of the
aluminum binder, then yes the Spicers are too tall (they are exactly
the same size as the EMDE Binders). I make sure the glass is to the
front (seamless side) of the binder and the mount is to the back. It
is a tight fit, but I do not have to force anything and I have not
noticed any bowing. I have checked this in both a TDC 116 projector
and a Themelized Red Button viewer and can not detect any focus
problems and I believe I am pretty critical.
As a disclaimer I should say that I have only done this with about a
dozen slides in tests only. Perhaps when I get to the point of
mounting for competition or shows with my best slides I will be able
to notice something.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the time,
