After rereading the original post and the reply, I now see that there's
move involved then whether or not the spec's for the EMDE binder or the
Spicer has changed. They have not; the problem is that they are slightly
incompatible. In the design of the EMDE mount, the finished mask is
inserted either into a frame or a binder. It's the external dimensions
of these compondents that conforms to the ASA standard. As a result,
the EMDE standard for cover glass allows for a slight vertical undersizing,
in order to compensate for the thickness of the binder's aluminum foil.
When I first offered binders in 1994, I soon received a number of
complaints that the cover glass wouldn't fit into the binder. In every
case, the problem was that they were attempting to reuse old glass from
the 50's (which varys widely in dimensions, i.e. Stereo Realist glass)
or "Plain Wrap" glass from Reel 3D which is NOT cut to EMDE's requirements.
Starkman has agreed to stop advertising that it does. So, the moral of the
story is using Ford parts on your Chevy might work, but you probably will
have to do some modifications to get it to work.
