Camera Advice

I own a nashica samurai 1/2 frame camera that 
stops frame advancing around 40th frame (on a roll of 36 I should get
70+ shots) It sounds like the sprockets start to slip then I engage the
film rewind. When I get the film back the sprockets appear to be ok. It
also seems that the take up spool cavity is awefully small, as though a
roll of 36 may be too long. Can this camera accept 36 ex. rolls? any
other ideas please?
