Larry Berlin replied in answer to my open question as to how to view
digitally-captured images anywhere:

This one had me laughing out loud. Here it is, the ultimate irony:

Digital stereo camera -> 250MHz Pentium II computer -> Ultra-high-res
Dye-sub digital printer -> View result in 1890's Holmes stereoscope!

(Your point about the flexibility afforded by the digital image is
not lost on me. I agree with most everything you said. When the
image capture technology catches up to film resolution, there will be
no reason not to go that route. I just found the above mental image
hillarious.)

Also, I might add, the question was asked in the context of remaining
in the digital realm, not going to hard copy. If hard copy is the goal,
I would start and end with film, and bypass the computer entirely. This
will continue to be entirely acceptable for "normal" images (i.e. ones
that don't require special processing).
